According to Laura Huhtasaari (Finns Party), who is a member of the European Parliament, U.S. President Donald Trump should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in peacemaking.

“I, the undersigned Member of the European Parliament, respectfully nominate President Donald J. Trump to receive the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize,” Laura Huhtasaari (Finns Party), writes in her recommendation letter to the Nobel Committee, dated October 9.

President Trump should, according to Huhtasaari, receive the prize “in recognition of his endeavors to end the era of endless wars, construct peace by encouraging conflicting parties for dialogue and negotiations, as well as underpin internal cohesion and stability of his country.”

According to Huhtasaari, this is the first time for almost four decades when a U.S. president has served a term “without engaging his country to new conflicts.” “Moreover, he has fulfilled his previous campaign pledge by withdrawing thousands of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan,” Huhtasaari writes.

Huhtasaari added that President Trump has also “maintained national cohesion and secured law and order” in the U.S.

In mid-September, another Finns Party member Vilhelm Junnila, who is a member of the Finnish Parliament, also nominated President Trump (as well as the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Khalifa) for next year’s Nobel Peace Prize because of their “historic breakthrough for peace in the Middle East.” “President Trump brokered a deal to establish full diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and State of Israel,” Junnila writes.

Huhtasaari and Junnila aren’t the only Scandinavian politicians to push Trump for the award.

A Norwegian Parliament member and a Swedish Parliament member have voted Trump earlier, and in September three members of the European Parliament submitted a resolution to call on the E.U. to nominate Trump for the prize.

This year’s Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the World Food Program.
