Thursday’s heavy snowfall has caused all sorts of problems for traffic in Finland.
In Helsinki, snow continued to fall throughout the morning, resulting in less traffic than usual for a weekday at that time in fair weather.
The forecast predicted up to 20 centimeters of snow in southern Finland, with the heaviest accumulation expected in that region. Drifting snow is making conditions even worse.
At this writing, many HSL busses were cancelled, and buses had slid off the roads at least in Kokemäki in the Satakunta region and in Porvoo in Uusimaa. So far, no serious personal injuries have been reported.
The weather is expected to warm up toward the evening, and the snowfall will turn into rain.
The fallen snow may disappear as quickly as it arrived.
