HELSINKI

On Wednesday evening in Kalasatama, armed police rushed into the Redi shopping center after a report of an armed individual.

An eyewitness told the Finnish tabloid Ilta-Sanomat that a police officer was seen entering the shopping center with a machine gun, and police officers were stationed at every entrance of the building.

Helsinki police confirmed they responded because someone reported seeing a weapon. Several patrols were dispatched as threats involving weapons are taken seriously.

The suspect was found quickly; the weapon turned out to be a toy gun.

One person was arrested and faces charges for possession of an object capable of causing serious injury.
