One or several gunshots were fired around 11:00 in the morning at a staircase of an apartment building in Helsinki’s Kallio district on Thursday. The location of the incident was Pengerkatu, not too far away from the Kallio Library.
The police received a call from the emergency center at 11:21.

Later in the afternoon, according to a press release, the police had two people in custody “who are suspects in the incident.” “Both the suspected shooter and the suspected weapon used in the shooting are in the possession of the police,” the Helsinki Police Department noted in the statement.
“According to the preliminary information, one or several gunshots were fired from the staircase to an apartment through the mail slot,” said Teemu Lappalainen, general manager and inspector, in the statement.
Nobody was hurt in the incident.
The police are investigating the incident as an attempted homicide and a firearms offense.
