The capital region will move to the spreading phase of the coronavirus pandemic, the Metropolitan Area coronavirus coordination group decided in their meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Mayor of Vantaa Timo Aronkyrö said to the media that the reasons include the worsened coronavirus situation and the growing need for hospital care.
The Regional State Administrative Agency will make the decisions related to indoor and outdoor gatherings later this week. The government may restrict the opening hours of restaurants further.
However, schools—including the upper secondary education—will begin their fall term in contact teaching.
Today, the regions of Varsinais-Suomi and PIrkanmaa have also transferred to the spreading phase.
On Tuesday, a total of 692 new coronavirus infections were confirmed. (View the numbers of new infections in detail here). Currently, 97 people are receiving hospital care for symptoms caused by the coronavirus.
