Finnish heavyweight boxer Robert Helenius has flown to his final training camp before a long-awaited rematch against Polish Adam Kownacki.
Since last year in March when the clean right cross took down his Polish opponent Adam Kownacki in the U.S., at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York, Robert Helenius has been waiting.
Waiting for another match with another opponent, mainly, maybe finally a shot at the heavyweight title, but since Kownacki’s contract included a chance for a rematch, Helenius is about to give him one.
In fact, he was about to face his Polish counterpart already in July this year, but after the world champion, Tyson Fury, who was about to defend his title at the event got infected with the coronavirus, the event was pushed further until October 9, and is to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Helenius was to face Kownacki in the co-main event of the evening.
All these delays haven’t succumbed Helenius to sipping beer and rolling thumbs.
He has kept himself ready, in shape—in fact, through rigorous training and a special organic meat-based diet at the Åland Islands, Helenius, 37, looks to be in the best form of his life.
Last week Helenius took off to his final training camp in the U.S. Alabama, where he is sparring with the other heavyweight world title contender on the night Helenius is to face Kownacki, Deontay Wilder.
“Still jetlagged but my spirit is high! Bring it!” Helenius wrote on Instagram before an intensive sparring session was to take place with the former world champion.
Wilder lost his title to Fury in February 2020.
He has also been waiting.
