President Sauli Niinistö had a thorough phone call with President of Russia Vladimir Putin on Friday, September 17, 2021, the Finnish president’s office noted in a statement.

In addition to the bilateral relations between Finland and Russia, the presidents spoke about the situation in Afghanistan, Arctic initiatives, the security of Europe and the EU’s strategic autonomy.

The presidents also continued their discussion about the Helsinki spirit.
