A vehicle of the Finnish Defence Forces burst into flames on the busy road of Kehä I (Ring I) during heavy snowfall on Wednesday morning.
The road, which is one of the three beltways in the Greater Helsinki region, carries about 113,000 vehicles per day, and on Wednesday morning just before 08:00, an army van pulling a trailer caught fire and jammed the traffic.
The people in the vehicle, according to a statement sent to Finland Today by the Finnish Defense Forces, got out safely.
The van was carrying personnel of the National Defence University and cadets who were on their way to the Oltermanni ski orienteering competition in Northern Savonia where the Finnish Defense Forces are competing with army skis on a distance of 90 kilometers.
The fire, according to the Helsinki Rescue Department, started at the engine bay, for reasons unknown at this writing.
Video footage of the incident has been shared by the readers of the Finnish tabloid Iltalehti. You can watch it here.
