President Sauli Niinistö will make a working visit to Turkey from March 16 to 17, the office of the Finnish president notes in a statement.

At the beginning of the trip, President Niinistö will visit the area affected by the earthquake in south-eastern part of Turkey.

On Friday, the President will meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey.

In addition to the reconstruction after the earthquake, the discussions will focus on the geopolitical situation, bilateral relations between Finland and Turkey and Finland’s and Sweden’s NATO memberships.

According to some sources who have spoken with the Finnish daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat,” Turkey is most likely about to announce that they will ratify Finland’s NATO application” during President Niinistö’s visit to the country.

President Niinistö’s delegation will include Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto.
