Cruise ships are slowing down to save fuel, according to the national broadcaster, Yle.
Viking Line will reduce the speed of its Helsinki–Stockholm service starting April 13 due to rising fuel costs from the war in Iran.
To optimize fuel consumption, departures will be adjusted: the Helsinki departure is now at 17:00, arriving in Stockholm at 10:10 and the Stockholm departure is moved to 16:00.
Tallink Silja has also made similar adjustments, with their ships leaving 15 minutes earlier.
Viking Line aims to avoid raising ticket prices while monitoring the situation. The Turku–Stockholm route schedule remains unchanged.
