Interior Minister Mari Rantanen (Finns) emphasized a million investment as crucial for improving detection and countering of drones along Finland’s eastern border and coastline.

The forthcoming supplementary budget will strengthen the counter-drone capabilities of the Finnish Border Guard and law enforcement agencies, with discussions set to continue at the end of May.
“Improving the ability of the Border Guard and the police to detect and counter drones is an important part of our work to strengthen Finland’s drone defense. Along with defense, the government will make significant investments aimed at improving the capabilities of the internal security authorities,” said Mari Rantanen (Finns), the minister of the interior, in a news release.
The government, alongside key authorities, is focusing on long-term development of Finland’s drone defense.
Key points include:
- €44 million allocated to the Border Guard for drone detection and countering.
- Funds will improve cooperation between authorities and establish a comprehensive counter-drone system along the eastern border and coastline.
- The police will receive around €6 million for enhancing detection of unmanned aircraft.
- Coordination among the Finnish Defence Forces, the Border Guard and the police will ensure efficient resource use and development of prevention and response capabilities.
