Thousands of young people celebrated the beginning of summer holidays across the country on Saturday evening and night.

The weather was hot and sunny, so the beaches, parks and market squares were dotted with 13- to 17 year-olds who at times became restless after sipping too much alcohol.

In Turku, south-west Finland, the teens celebrated at the local cliffs and several fistfights broke out.

According to the police, those with the worst condition (from alcohol) were picked up from the beach to the ambulance of the rescue department.

Alcohol was confiscated from several minors.

In Oulu, the capital of northern Scandinavia, teens crowded the beaches, continuing the tradition of the past years, but greater problems were avoided.

In Tampere and Jyväskylä, western Finland, the evening was, according to the police “very busy.”

Fights, intoxicated teens, quarrels and tumbles were part of the night.

In Joensuu, eastern Finland, several hundred teens gathered to celebrate. Since then, several 15-17-year-olds are suspected of crimes, including drug use and possession of an object that “could be used to harm another human being.”
