The shooting in Helsinki center at Hietalahdenkatu on Tuesday afternoon is being investigated as three attempted murders.

Two people were injured. According to the police, their injuries are not life-threatening.

The third person did not suffer any injuries.

The police have caught one person whose connection in the events is being investigated.

“The police are continuing to investigate the events and the motive of the suspect,” Detective Inspector Jukka Larkio at the Helsinki Police Department said in a statement.

The police will inform more details on Wednesday noon.

When Finland Today arrived at the scene, a red Toyota Yaris had been stopped at the street with one of its windows broken, the headlights were on and there were dents on its side doors. Some items were scattered around the car on the pavement.

Various eyewitnesses have told the media that a large man wearing yellow construction worker clothes and holding a handgun approached the red Toyota and started shooting around 16:00.

Two men who were sitting in the front, started running, trying to escape.

The shooter shot one of them in the back. The other one screamed for help loudly and run into a nearby store.

After that, the shooter broke the back window of the Toyota and shot at a man who was sitting in the backseat.

The victim laid on the ground, bleeding.

In total, eyewitnesses have said hearing between three to ten shots.

The police operation at Hietalahdenkatu has ended.
