Environmental movement Elokapina notes in a statement that it will start a series of demonstrations in Helsinki and Tampere on Monday, disrupting traffic.

“The demonstrations will continue daily for a week,” the organization notes.

The demonstration procession will move slowly, with the intention of slowing traffic to a near standstill, Elokapina noted in a press release.

While observing their live feed of the protest on X, they are, indeed, moving slowly, as if they had problems with their back and legs in the middle of the main street Mannerheimintie in Helsinki. They are wearing yellow vests like the police that are controlling the traffic.

“The protesters,” according to the statement, “are marching to demand that Finland’s forests be restored to sustainable levels.”

The marches will take place “near influential Finnish forestry operators,” Elokapina noted.

The slow marches are part of Elokapina’s autumn Metsäkapina (Forest Rebellion) campaign. The campaign calls for nature and biodiversity to be given priority and for an end to state aid that is destructive to the environment and nature.
