THURSDAY’S STRIKES will have a wide impact on services such as postal services, catering, buses, cleaning and sports facilities. JHL has already announced strikes in rail transport and power stations.

On Monday, the Finnish Post and Logistics Union (PAU) announced that it will participate in the joint action day of the unions by calling for a postal strike on Thursday from 00:00 to 24:00. The strike will cover all pre-delivery work at the departure and delivery points, except mechanical sorting work at the postal center and pre-arranged Christmas card sorting shifts.

The Service Union United (PAM) also announced the extension of its strikes on Monday. 10,000 workers are on strike.

The union’s strike will significantly impact, for example, buses, catering in schools and day-care centers, cleaning of public areas and sports facilities. In addition, JHL members working for Finavia at Turku airport will be involved in the strike.

JHL also declares a ban on overtime and shift changes, as well as a temporary transfer ban, at almost all strike locations from December 11 to 14. The bans do not apply to VR Group and Finavia’s strike site in Turku.

During the fall and early winter, the JHL union organized several political strikes against the government’s unfair policies. “The Finnish government is planning to weaken social security and basic workers’ rights dramatically,” the union notes in a statement.
