May Day in Helsinki, May 1, 2019. Filming and editing: Tony Öhberg for Finland Today

From the presidential May Day greetings to marches and political party picnics, we take you on a journey around various events that happened today, on May Day, across Helsinki.

First you’ll see President Sauli Niinistö and his spouse, Jenni Haukio, listening to the YL Male Choir (the Helsinki University Chorus) performing for the presidential couple at the front yard of the Presidential Palace.

Then we take you to a May Day march arranged by anarchists and other individuals.

You’ll also get a peek on the parade, arranged by the labor union SAK.

Finally, you’ll get to see the Finns Party Chairman Jussi Halla-aho wearing a student’s cap and sunglasses while visiting the party picnic.

Hauskaa vappua!

Perhaps instead of filming about political parties you could film more about the culture of May day and the music and happy celebrations that was in many of the parks, instead of drawing attention to fascist right winged parties and extremist groups. This video was giving all the wrong signals about what vappu is about.
