HELSINKI—The Finnish national football team, Huuhkajat, loses to France 0–2 in World Cup qualifiers at the sold-out Helsinki Olympic Stadium on Tuesday night.

This, unfortunately, means that Finland will not have a chance of qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

Before the game, hundreds of Huuhkajat fans marched along the Mannerheimintie from downtown to the stadium in Töölö in a police escort.

They sang fan songs while holding torches that painted the street red. They shot fireworks with a loud bang. They drank beer from a can.

They probably would have taken the streets should Finland have won.

Now they are just going home.
