Candle-lit vigil in Helsinki marks three years of Russia’s aggression on Ukraine. Candles will be sent to Ukraine to support the frontline.

“Today marks exactly three years of Russia’s brutal war of aggression, the destruction of Ukraine and the killing of Ukrainians,” notes a statement on Facebook by the non-profit organization Mothers for Peace Finland on Monday.
“Our goal is to create a candle-lit staircase at the Cathedral and fill the Senate Square with light in support of Ukraine.”
And indeed, they did. Together with the Ukrainian Association in Finland, the church in Helsinki, the City of Helsinki, the University of Helsinki, the Prime Minister’s Office, the embassies of Ukraine and Iceland, and hundreds, if not thousands, of concerned citizens, they lit a bed of candles that, when darkness fell, looked astounding on the dimly lit square. Just before a handful of candle pickers began their work to blow out the flames and gather the thousands of candles, it was revealed that these candles will be sent to Ukraine to provide light for the frontline of the war.
