VR cancels trains for the following three days to “ensure the smoothest possible service.”

HEAVY FROST, snow and ice across the country have caused many delays and cancelations to the train fleet of the state-owned railway company, VR, this week.
Now VR is opting for precautionary measures by canceling many train services for the rest of the week.
VR will cancel approximately 20 train services per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to ensure “the smoothest possible service over the weekend and into next week,” the company notes in a statement.
Most of the cancellations are between Helsinki and Kupittaa, Tampere and Pori, and Seinäjoki and Vaasa.
“During this week’s severe frost, our rolling stock has not been able to thaw properly and additional thawing and maintenance is now necessary. We deeply regret the cancellation of these train services. However, the measure is necessary to ensure the continuity of services as the frost continues to be so severe,” Piia Tyynilä, the director of long-distance passenger services at VR, said in a statement.
The cancelations will affect around 10,000 passengers over three days.
