Two lower secondary school boys were involved in a stabbing incident at Maatulli Comprehensive School in Tapulikaupunki, Helsinki, on Monday.

An eighth-grade student stabbed the victim inside the school with a bladed weapon. Police were notified around 09:15 in the morning and arrested the suspect by 10:22 and confirmed that everyone inside the school and nearby daycare was safe after conducting searches.

The conflict between the boys had, according to the Finnish tabloid Ilta-Sanomat, intensified, causing them to miss school for the rest of the week prior to Monday’s event.

The victim was given first aid at the scene and then hospitalized. Parents voiced concerns about delayed communication from the school, which sent a Wilma message at 10:10 and announced class suspensions around 11:15, although meals continued to be served.

Crisis support is being provided to students while police carry on with their investigation.

The area remains secured despite no current threat.
