HomeBoxingHelenius Proves That He is Hard to Hit, But His Focus on Defense Costs Him the Fight Against Whyte Tony Öhberg 10/29/2017 Boxing Embed from Getty Images It was a matter of survival for the Finnish heavyweight boxer Robert Helenius in his fight against his British counterpart, Dillian Whyte, in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday night. Helenius was fast enough to evade most of Whyte’s clean and precise punches, which the British delivered from unorthodox angles, but already early in the rounds, Helenius sadly gave the driver’s seat to Whyte who was more than happy to accept it. The brightest moment for the Finnish heavyweight was in round five, when he landed his trademark hooks to his opponent’s body: a right, a left, a right. These hooks would send the average man to the funeral home, but not Whyte.Clickable Advertisement Embed from Getty Images Sometimes, Helenius hit Whyte with a nice uppercut, but it was hard for Helenius to get in clean shots because he tried to deliver most of them from the ropes, where he spent most of the fight due to Whyte’s heavy pressure and stamina that kept him dominating. After 12 rounds, Whyte won the fight by a unanimous decision, with the judges scoring 118-110, 119-109, 119-109 for Whyte. Whyte took home the WBC Silver title belt and is entitled to challenge the WBC World Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder. What will Helenius do? We will find out later.
