Several small, slow-moving drones were detected flying at low altitude in Finnish airspace over the sea and southeastern Finland on Sunday morning. The Finnish Defence Forces responded with an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet to identify the objects.

On Sunday morning, several small, slow-moving objects flying at low altitude were spotted in Finnish airspace over the sea and in southeastern Finland, the Finnish Defence Forces note in a statement.
“The Air Force has been on the scene conducting identification operations with an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet. According to current information, one drone has crashed north of Kouvola and another east of Kouvola. The police have cordoned off the areas for further investigation.”
Antti Häkkänen (NCP), the minister of defense, said that “drones have strayed into Finnish airspace. We take this matter very seriously. Security authorities have responded immediately.”
The Finnish Defence Forces are investigating the incident in cooperation with other authorities.
