Vihti broke this winter’s low-temperature record in the south by dropping to -32.8C.

The lowest temperature in the southern region was recorded on Saturday night in Vihti, where the mercury dropped to –32.8 degrees Celsius, according to weather service Foreca. surpassing its previous -31C record from February 2. Lappeenranta also saw -32. 6C, while Finland’s coldest spot was Kevojärvi in Utsjoki at -33.6C.
In southern Finland, temperatures have recently reached freezing levels and are expected to stay cold through the weekend with clear but frigid weather.
On Sunday night, frost may intensify in the south and east, possibly reaching -30C; most of southern Finland will see lows between -20C and -25C except coastal areas where it will be milder.
Sunday will bring warmer weather as clouds move in: daytime temperatures will be between -2C and -10C in western Finland, -8C to -15C in the south and east and as low as –25C in Lapland.
Early next week will remain wintry with minor temperature changes; most areas will experience nightly lows of –10C to –20C.
Sunshine and light snow are forecasted as day–night temperature differences decrease.
