Winter storm will send howling winds across southern Scandinavia and northern Europe through the weekend and usher gusting winds and snow showers to Finland, too.

The snowfall begins on Saturday in the southwest and the wind gusts at its strongest during the night prior Sunday.

The southwestern parts and the south coast could receive a frosting of much as 15 centimetres of snow.

Icy roads ahead

The weather gets colder during the weekend across the country: below minus 10 degrees of Celsius is common in most parts and as much as minus 30 degrees is expected in Lapland.

After a period of thawing weather the snow has melted on the roads and they have become wet. Now, the the roads will freeze making them extremely slippery.
