A storm called Varpu hit many parts of the country hard on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The autumn storm, named Varpu, has taken down trees and caused hundreds of damage control tasks for rescue services throughout the night between Tuesday and Wednesday and until afternoon on Wednesday, at least in the southern and central parts of Finland.
In central and northern Lapland, Varpu brought the first snow. As much as 25 centimeters piled up in some places.
At sea, the strongest average winds have been 27.5 m/s measured at Bogskär station in Kökar. The strongest gust at sea was 35.5 m/s at the same station.
There have also been some gusts inland. The strongest gust was 29.7 m/s at Tampere-Pirkkala airport in Pirkkala.
The storm also caused power cuts in some places. According to the Energy Industry’s power outage map, there were more than 20,000 households without electricity just half an hour before noon.
At 20:30 on Wednesday evening, 2,134 people across the country were still without electricity.
