Top American and Russian military officers held talks at Königsted Manor—at the Finnish government’s premises—in Vantaa on Wednesday.

Later, they also met with President Sauli Niinistö.

The daylong session was held between General Mark Milley, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, and General Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian General Staff.

Finland was not represented at the meeting but provided the settings for the meeting, the Finnish Defence Forces noted in a statement.

The generals also met with Timo Kivinen, the commander of the Finnish Defence Forces.

President Niinistö described the conversations with both generals as “important and insightful” on Twitter.

“Finland continues to be ready to offer its good services in facilitating dialogue—and the Helsinki Spirit,” Niinistö added.
