The coronavirus pandemic is still accelerating in the capital region. In response, the area’s coronavirus coordination group recommends the entire staff of comprehensive schools to wear face masks.

The face mask recommendation concerns teachers and other school staff in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen.

In the metropolitan area, in the very last few days, there have been signs of an accelerating pandemic. “Also, the worrying situation elsewhere in Europe gives reason for attentiveness,” the city administration noted in a news release. “By adhering to the mask recommendation, we can ensure the continuity of contact teaching.”

The cities will purchase face masks for the staff. Those who are unable to wear face masks because of health reasons can opt for face shields instead.

According to the news release, in case of the pandemic escalating to spreading phase, the mask recommendation would be extended to include the students of upper comprehensive schools.
