ESPOO—HELSINKI—The roof of Esport Arena in Tapiola Sports Park collapsed on Wednesday morning because of a heavy load of snow that had gathered on the roof of the third floor.

No one was injured in the incident.

The third floor is dedicated to football. The roof is an air-supported structure, a so-called air dome.

Another sports hall with an air dome roof, owned by Helsingin Palloseura in Helsinki’s Pakila district, collapsed between the night of Tuesday and Wednesday. No one was inside during the incident.

As much as 33 centimeters of snow has piled in the Helsinki center between Monday and Wednesday.

Helsinki Rescue Department advises people to observe the roofs of the highest apartment buildings while walking the streets downtown.

Large amounts of snow have gathered on the eaves and could fall unpredictably.
