President Sauli Niinistö had a phone call with President of Russia Vladimir Putin on the morning of Thursday, according to the president’s office.

The presidents spoke about the imprisonment of Alexei Navalny and its implications for relations between European countries and Russia.

In addition, the presidents continued their discussion from the turn of the year on great-power relations and arms control.

The call was made on Finland’s initiative.
