The Centre Party told about their choice on Monday after finding an agreement in a joint meeting in Helsinki where their party board, parliamentary group and European parliamentary group found Vanhanen to be their preferred candidate.

Matti Vanhanen is currently the speaker of the parliament. He is also the former prime minister, who served between 2003-2010.

Vanhanen is going to replace Katri Kulmuni (the Centre) as the finance minister.

Kulmuni announced Friday that she will step down.
