Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL) is preparing to swiftly make wearing face masks mandatory. Face masks will be mandatory on public transport in the Helsinki region from Saturday March 13.

“Due to the current epidemic situation,” HSL noted in a statement, “wearing a face mask is of utmost importance.”

People unable to wear a face mask for medical reasons are exempt of wearing a mask.

On Thursday, the Finnish railway company VR made it compulsory for passengers to wear face masks on commuter and long-distance trains.
