The coldest temperature of this fall was measured in Ylivieska, North Ostrobothnia, where the mercury sank to minus 6.8 degrees Celsius on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The nighttime temperatures are also getting chillier in the southern parts, but in the Helsinki region, for example, not quite yet likely to drop below zero.

On Thursday, daytime temperatures of between 7 and 12 degrees are likely in the southern and central parts. In the northern parts: between 5 and 10 degrees.

During the day a low-pressure area is creating strong rains and powerful winds. The weather service Foreca forecasts hard rains to the western parts and western Lapland. By the evening, the rains are spreading to the southern parts. Stormy winds are possible.

The winds are forecast to calm down by Friday afternoon in the southern parts. The rains are likely to stop on Sunday at the latest.

The sun may make an appearance, too.
