LUX HELSINKI began on Wednesday evening, illuminating the Finnish capital in freezing weather that felt close to -30 degrees Celsius.

Nevertheless, tourists and some locals were “out and about” in downtown Helsinki, observing one spectacle after another.

It’s truly fascinating what a set of LEDs and a creative mind can do to the facade of a 19th-century building.

And when the light show is accompanied by an appropriate soundtrack, it’s easy to forget the biting frost on your face.

Lux Helsinki takes place in the Finnish capital from January 3 to 7.

Here’s our gallery of some of the highlights.
