This year the Jussi Film Awards, which celebrate the best of Finnish cinema, were arranged in a normal setting at the Helsinki Cable Factory on Friday after two years of masks and pandemic rules.
Actors, directors, producers—various people involved in Finnish filmmaking—walked on the red carpet to pose, laugh and share quick anecdotes that could later be quoted as headlines in the yellow press.
It was a delight to observe the show. The energy and genuine joy that these creative minds possess are contagious.
Directors told about their new projects, someone had begun writing a book, another was just happy to celebrate life with loved ones in these turbulent times.
From the carpet, they sat down for a gala dinner and a few drinks.
Then it was time to honor the best of Finnish cinema with the trophy, designed by sculptor Ben Renvall: a nude white man made of gypsum wearing a stetson.
