Finns Vote Jukka Risikko’s Lakeside Scene as 2024’s Most Beautiful Stamp – Explore the Top 10 Gallery

Jukka Risikko’s tranquil lakeside photography has won over Finns, earning the title of Finland’s most beautiful stamp of 2024.

Finns have chosen the lakeside landscape photographed by Jukka Risikko in Orisberg, Isokyrö, as the most beautiful stamp of 2024. The photo captures a peaceful lakeside scene with a dock bathed in morning fog at sunrise.

Jukka Risikko also took home second place with another landscape shot. This stamp features tussock cottongrass glowing in the morning sunlight on the edge of a bog in Alajoki, Lapua. Both stamps were part of the Glow of the Sun stamp sheet released in September 2024.

Coming in third was the Christmas stamp Christmas Path, illustrated by Hanna-Maria Mainelakeus. It interestingly showcases the bright colors of the northern lights reflecting on snowy landscapes, creating an enchanting holiday vibe. 

Voting for Finland’s most beautiful stamp was held on the Finnish postal service Posti’s website and via postcard, with a total of 34,037 votes cast. The winning stamp received 19 percent of the votes, while the second and third-place stamps earned 13 and 11 percent, respectively. Other popular themes in the top 10 included national landscapes and horse racing.

Finns cherish lakeside views, especially at sunrise or sunset, often capturing these moments at their summer homes. Jukka Risikko beautifully depicted an early summer morning, as noted in a statement by Tommi Kantola, the design manager at Posti.

This isn’t the first time Jukka Risikko has dominated the voting. It’s his third double-win, following victories in 2021 and 2022. In the statement, he summarized his feelings as “incredible.”

Based in Lapua, Jukka Risikko finds inspiration in the nature around him. “I love peaceful forests, bogs, and waterfront areas. I’m always observing how light changes at different times of the day and year. Soft sunlight creates the best atmosphere for photos. Sunrise and sunset light, in particular, enhances the colors and makes them glow beautifully,” he explained.

A set of 100 National Landscapes II stamps costs €250, while The Glow of the Sun is a 10-stamp sheet containing two different international no-value indicator stamp designs. A set of 10 stamps costs €27.50.
