FINLAND OPENS THE EASTERN BORDER for Vaalimaa and Niirala border crossings on Thursday, December 14.

But people traveling across the borders should be prepared:

“The government will close the entire eastern border again if the instrumentalized migration at the eastern border continues,” the Ministry of the Interior notes in a statement.

The government made the decision at an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday.

“We cannot say whether things have changed for the better without lifting some restrictions. Therefore, after careful consideration, we are opening two crossings in a controlled manner. However, we are ready to reintroduce restrictions quickly. Finland will ensure its national security,” Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP) said in a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
