THE END-OF-SERVICE SURVEYS tell the Finnish Defense Forces what the conscript thinks about his or her service period.

“The final survey of conscripts discharged in December 2023 achieved the highest results in the current survey (2014–2023),” the Finnish Defense Forces note in a statement.

In the final survey of discharged conscripts, ratings are given on a scale of 1 to 5. In the survey of conscripts discharged in December 2023, conscripts’ commitment to national defense (4.6), time in the army (4.3) and physical training (3.8) reached record levels. Satisfaction with personnel (4.3), evaluation of team leaders (4.0) and officer cadets (4.3) also remained at high levels.

Feedback surveys play an important role in the development of training. Feedback surveys are analyzed at all levels of the defense forces, from the general staff to the basic unit. Over the long term, the results have shown an upward trend. The feedback surveys will be renewed from the beginning of 2024, but some of the results will remain comparable to previous years.

The final survey results also show that the war in Ukraine has strengthened the conscripts’ motivation to serve and their will to defend their country. The conscripts’ willingness to defend their country and motivation to serve have increased steadily since 2022.
