Trade unions have scheduled protests for Thursday afternoon regarding the government-owned aviation company Finnair.

The protests will take place between 14:00 and 16:00 in the afternoon.

The demonstrations will impact operations at the Helsinki Airport, including customer service, baggage handling and other ground services, disrupting Finnair’s flights.

Consequently, Finnair will cancel approximately 70 flights affecting around 6,500 customers.

According to the unions, the political demonstration targets the state’s corporate governance policy. The Finnish Transport Workers’ Union (AKT), for example, criticizes the proposal to increase the remuneration of Finnair’s board of directors, which is majority state-owned by about 30–45% over two years.

Meanwhile, Finnair announced it will offer alternative flights for passengers whose flights are canceled.
