Two extortion messages demanding virtual money were left at the Facebook pages of two national banks: OP and Danske Bank.

This was reported by Helsingin Sanomat on Friday evening.

OP Financial Group has been suffering from denial-of-services attacks since Wednesday, the New Year’s Eve. Danske Bank has reported similar attacks towards their system as well, but so far its banking systems have functioned properly.

The extortion message, which was left on the New Year’s Eve, demands Bitcoins for stopping the DDoS attacks.

According to Timo Piiroinen, the detective investigator at the National Bureau of Investigation NBI, the contents of the messages are known to the police.

Piiroinen said that the NBI is investigating, whether the extortion is real or trolling, online harassment.
