Luokkakokous (The Class Reunion) is a tale of three men Antti (Sami Hedberg) (left), Tuomas (Jaajo Linnonmaa) and Niklas (Aku Hirviniemi) who leave for a weekend trip to their old hometown for trip of their lifetime. Picture: Solar Films

Have you seen The Hangover? Luokkakokous by director Taneli Mustonen resembles the 2009 Hollywood flick, but instead of situated in Las Vegas, this one focuses in Naantali, which some, however, call the Las Vegas of Finland.

Luokkakokous features plenty of jerking-off-type-of-jokes, ass staring and words like ‘pillu’ (pussy), ‘perse’ (ass) and ‘pornolehti’ (a porn magazine).

This is funny, but of course, it depends on the viewer like one of the lead actors, Sami Hedberg, said at the opening ceremony of the invitational premiere at Tennispalatsi on Tuesday evening:

“Humour is an art of skill because the tastes vary.”

The other lead actors are Jaajo Linnonmaa (Tuomas) and Aku Hirviniemi (Niklas).

The latter two are front-row players but for Hedberg (Antti) – who though is one of the most prominent stand-up comedians in the country – it was his debut.

The film focuses on the guys’ trip to a class reunion (Finnish for luokkakokous) in their old hometown and the journey is going to be the one for the lifetime.

Tuomas is a rock star who has had everything, Niklas a journalist, who is suffering of the middle-age crisis and Antti is going through a divorce.

The different personal traits and life situations, much like in its progenitor, create conflicts, laughable dilemmas and situational humour.

If you want to enjoy the film, take a massage, leave your brains in the cloakroom and let the comfort of the cinema help you escape the treadmill of thoughts. You’ll have plenty of time to think afterwards and maybe you smile a little more, too.
