One doesn’t carry along an axe by accident, the police said at the press conference on Thursday afternoon regarding the Wednesday’s double axe murders in Oulu.

At 17:46 on Wednesday evening, the police received a call about a man who had been hit by a weapon. He lay on the ground and had seizures.

Another call told about two bloody victims.

They found two victims dead: one, an employee of the pub inside the bar, the other, a 74-year-old man lying on the street against the pavement. The victims were killed by axe strikes to the upper body.[/alert]

The police found the suspect inside a flat in Myllyoja district, about five kilometres from pub Tuisku.

At 22:00, the police decided to enter the house to capture the suspect.

Out of sudden, the man inside the flat opened the door and attacked the police with an axe.

“We had a specially trained group at the scene.”

The blade hit a police officer in the helmet.

“We had a specially trained group at the scene,” said inspector Mauno Repo from the Oulu police department.

The police shot at the suspect.

The suspect prepared for another strike.

The police shot at the suspect, again.

The tactical first aid group provided fast first aid to the man.

The suspect died later at the Oulu University Hospital.
